Time Out New York’s powerful matchmaking website makes it easy to take part in MMNY.
Here’s how to make it work for you:
** Don’t just register your information, and wait to be chosen. Go ahead and browse the listings and start requesting locations (or performers).
** Use the search function. You can enter a zip code to find musicians or in your area! Book them at your location or discover musicians and performances in your neighborhood. You can also search by keywords, or sort the listings by musical genre.
** If someone requests a spot at your location, and you can’t use their talents, please log in to the site and deny their performance request. You’re not being impolite — it’s much worse for people to wait for an answer, when they could be making other plans.
** We’re relying on you to keep your profile updated, so everyone has clear and open lines of communication. Once you’ve finalized your plans, choose the My Artist or My Location tab, click on Edit, and un-check the Available Times boxes. This lets people know that you’re fully booked, and they won’t waste their time requesting a performance from you.
** If you belong to an organization with multiple locations that want music on June 21st, you must register each location with a unique email address. Unfortunately, there’s no way around this. One solution is to create multiple, free accounts on Gmail or Yahoo and have all messages forwarded to your normal email address.
** If you’re a musician who’s applied for locations, and been declined, you can still perform in MMNY. Don’t hesitate to create your own location: see the next blog post for instructions.
